Common Casey Question Types with Worked Examples

Five recurring Casey question patterns and how to attack each one in under 3 minutes.

Pattern 1: Chart-based numeric short answer

Casey shows a bar or line chart and asks for a specific value or calculation. Read the axis labels twice. Round to the nearest whole unit unless asked otherwise.

Example: "Based on Exhibit 2, what is the projected revenue in 2027?" → Read the 2027 bar, type the integer.

Pattern 2: Multiple choice with calculation

Casey lists four numeric options. Do the math, pick the closest.

Example: "Which option best estimates EBITDA if costs rise 12%?" → Compute on scratch paper, choose the nearest.

Pattern 3: Qualitative MCQ (judgment)

"What is the most important factor to consider next?" Pick the option that is (a) most specific to this case and (b) most actionable.

Pattern 4: Open-text structured answer

"List three reasons the client should not enter this market." Write three bullets. Each bullet: a reason + one supporting data point. Character limits are tight (often 300-500 chars).

Pattern 5: Synthesis / recommendation

The final video pitch. See the dedicated guide on the 1-minute video recommendation.

The Casey rules to internalize

  • Once you submit a question, you cannot go back.
  • A countdown applies to the whole case, not per question. Pace yourself.
  • Exhibits stay visible across multiple questions — re-use them.
