BCG CCA Practice

BCG CCA practice: the complete guide.

The BCG Consulting Career Assessment (CCA) is a 30–45 minute hybrid screen: situational-judgment items, quantitative reasoning, and a short chat-style case. This guide covers the format, scoring, sample question types, and a 3-week prep plan.

What is the BCG CCA?

The BCG CCA (Consulting Career Assessment) is a 30–45 minute online screen that combines behavioural, quantitative, and case-style items into one hybrid test. BCG uses it before first-round interviews in an expanding set of offices, alongside — and sometimes replacing — the Casey chatbot.

Unlike Casey (a single linear case) or the Cognitive Test (a pure aptitude screen), the CCA samples across dimensions. It is diagnostic by design: candidates who are strong on math but weak on client judgment show up differently from candidates who are strong on judgment but slow on math.

CCA format at a glance

  • Block 1 — Situational Judgment (10–15 minutes). Short workplace scenarios with four ranked-response options.
  • Block 2 — Quantitative Reasoning (8–12 minutes). GMAT data-sufficiency-style items, no calculator.
  • Block 3 — Chat-style Case (10–15 minutes). A compressed Casey-style flow: prompt, structuring, one to two quant questions, one exhibit, short synthesis.

Per-block timers apply. Once a block closes, you cannot return.

Sample question types

Situational judgment

You get a one-paragraph workplace scenario (missed deadline, disagreement with a partner, ambiguous client ask) and four possible actions. Rank them, or pick the single most and least effective. The scoring bias rewards client-first, transparent, escalation-friendly answers over technically correct ones.

Quantitative reasoning

Word problems with two data statements. Decide whether Statement 1 alone, Statement 2 alone, both, or neither is sufficient to answer the question. Numbers are chosen to be doable in under 90 seconds without a calculator if you round.

Chat-style case

A short business prompt followed by 4–6 typed answers. Same rhythm as Casey but roughly a third of the length and no video pitch.

How the BCG CCA is scored

BCG does not publish a cutoff, but the CCA is a filter, not a tie-breaker. Candidates report the effective bar sits around the 70th percentile on the aggregate signal. Weak performance on any single block can be offset by strong performance on another, but a poor situational-judgment score is the fastest way to be filtered out — client judgment weighs disproportionately in the composite.

CCA vs Casey: which will I take?

Your invitation email is the ground truth. If it says "Casey" or "Casey chatbot", prep for the linear case (see the Casey guide). If it says "CCA" or "Consulting Career Assessment", you're facing the hybrid.

Overlap in prep is high: mental math, chart reading, and MECE structuring transfer directly. What's additional for the CCA is situational judgment — a block Casey doesn't test at all.

A 3-week BCG CCA prep plan

  1. Week 1 — Diagnose. Run one full untimed Casey simulation. Do 30 GMAT-style quant items. Identify your two weakest question types.
  2. Week 2 — Drill. Daily 20-minute mental-math sets (percentages, ratios, growth rates). 15 situational-judgment items. Two timed Casey cases.
  3. Week 3 — Simulate. Two full timed Casey simulations, one 90-minute mixed CCA-style block combining all three question types. Rest the day before the test.

Common failure modes

  • Slow starters. The CCA punishes hesitation — practise committing within 20 seconds of reading a prompt.
  • Over-optimising the SJT. Second-guessing situational-judgment answers rarely helps. First instinct + client-first bias is usually right.
  • Chasing precision on quant. Round hard. "About $60m" beats "$58.44m" if it saves 45 seconds.
  • Treating the chat case like Casey. The chat block is shorter and more compressed — leave less on the table per answer.

The day before

  • Test browser, camera, and internet on the exact device you'll use.
  • Sleep 7+ hours. Composure matters more than caffeine.
  • Skim your own notes on structuring and mental-math rules — no new material.

BCG CCA — frequently asked questions

The Consulting Career Assessment (CCA) is BCG's newer online screen. It blends situational-judgment behavioural items, quantitative reasoning, and a short chat-style case segment into a single 30–45 minute test used to filter candidates before first-round interviews.
